What is coconut oil?
Coconut oil is made from the flesh of coconut, pressed and refined to yield a liquid oil.
Coconut oil has been used for healing properties, skin care, and many other remedies for thousands of years.
Coconut oil is also used for cooking and often selected over seed oils or animal fats because some research led consumers to believe coconut oil is healthier. I encourage anyone further interested in the coconut oil for culinary purposes to further dive into this subject. Research, research, research.
While we will leave the health facts out of the discussion, coconut oil is an excellent choice for use in natural skin care.
How does it help my skin?
Coconut oil is incredibly beneficial for your skin. Used in many natural soaps, facial creams, and other products. Even pure, coconut oil can be applied to the skin for intense hydration. Coconut oil is also believed to have antibacterial, anti-inflammatory as well as antiviral properties.
- Fights acne
Yes, that’s right! Coconut oil fights acne. With anti-inflammatory properties, as well as being antibacterial coconut oil works to reduce inflammation and fight away bacteria preventing acne breakouts.
We love using coconut oil in our soap base for this reason. As goat milk, is also thought to reduce acne breakouts.
- Reduces aging
Coconut oil can reduce aging. By hydrating your skin, coconut oil can prevent early aging and wrinkles. It works to create firmer skin, which prevents wrinkling. This is one of my favorite uses for coconut oil. I often dab a tiny amount of coconut oil around my cheekbones, and below my eye to reduce wrinkling.
- Effectively moisturizes
The third and arguably the most important property of coconut oil. Restoring Moisture to the Skin. Coconut oil contains fats and proteins that are excellent for restoring hydration. Coconut oil works to restore the skin barrier and lock in moisture. Coconut oil used for hydration works effectively to restore dry skin.
We love all of these properties about coconut oil and use this amazing ingredient in many of our bar soaps and lotions.
